Lotus Notes on Ubuntu Lucid
Okay so installing Lotus Notes on Linux is great if you’re running 8.04, but that’s like two years back so what to do if you’re on 10.04?
Start with the official .deb from IBM (ibm-lotus-notes-8.5.1.i586.deb). Install using:
sudo dpkg –force-depends -i ibm-lotus-notes-8.5.1.i586.deb
Then install Fixpack 4 from here:
http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=899&uid=swg24025721#FP4
sudo dpkg –force-depends -i ibm_lotus_notes_fixpack-8.5.1.i586.deb
This works out the box unlike some other hacks to install outdated and missing libraries.
What isn’t great is that your package manager is borked and will complain at every opportunity about broken packages.
To fix (well cheat):
sudo gedit /var/lib/dkpg/status
Look for package ibm-lotus-notes and edit the dependencies to remove the libraries it is complaining about. These are mostly old lib-gnome-desktop libraries. Check Synaptic for the list – it will highlight them in italics if you look at the packages properties.
Disclaimer: Messing with your package manager isn’t recommended so while I’m pretty sure this is safe, don’t blame me if update gremlins break things.
